My art journey – monthly review for March 2018

My art journey – monthly review for March

After the short spring break, I’m officially back! 🙂

I have missed the monthly review because of the break, so I start April with this.

March was like a second February this year, at least for us. It was grey, gloomy and cold. Because of the sudden weather changes and lack of sunshine we have spent a lot of time ‘zombie-ing’, and we found it hard to be creative or just active most of the time.

Actually, I had to check my Bullet Journal to see how I’ve spent last month, I couldn’t remember anything special to write about except for one thing. 😮

1. Jewelry

Luckily, I’ve had a lot of jewelry orders in March. When I feel tired and sleepy all the time, it’s hard to be inventive, to work on new pieces. It was not an art block, just the lack of energy.

I’ve only listed two new ear cuffs, but I’m happy with them.

The change came on the last week (this is why I needed the spring break). Suddenly new ideas have started to come, and I still hardly can keep up with them. 🙂 I’ve made almost 20 new pieces since then, and started practicing metalsmithing again. It’s great, because I’m doing a 30 day etsy listing challenge this month (I’m listing a new piece every day for 30 days in my etsy shop), so I need a lot of new jewelry. I’ll post more about this in April, though. 😉

2. Art

I haven’t made too much art either, but I’ve started a new project that I like. Mini Lisa and #boszidrawme call for entries on Instagram

I’ve asked my Instagram followers to send me photos of themselves so as I can draw them. This way I not only have reference photos to use without copyright problems, but I can also give back something to my friends and followers. If you’re interested, the hashtag is #boszidrawme. 🙂

I’m trying to find time to finish one boszidrawme portrait each month. #boszidrawme drawing and photo of @teresadd16 on instagram

3. Personal

March was mostly about the spring cleaning, but I’ve finished only the 3/4 of it. I tend to plan more than I can finish, and I cannot help it.

I had to rearrange my studio too. This year I’m painting less, but I’m spending more time metalsmithing and making jewelry in general, both of which need more space and a bigger table. This project is still in progress, new furniture is coming tomorrow, but I’ll write a full post about it when it’s ready.

The only exceptional thing last month was seeing the musical Frida. We love the theatre, but honestly musicals are not really our thing. We were afraid of it a bit, but Frida Kahlo is one of my art-icons, so we decided to give it a chance.

In the end, we were happy to have watched it. Though I’m still not the biggest fan of musicals, it was really good. The story was told by the spirits (or ghosts) of Frida’s unborn son and two of her ancestors, a take that I found very creative and interesting.

Unfortunately, we were not allowed to take photos – but there’s an official trailer out there on YouTube which lets you get a feel of the performance:

After two very slow months, April has started much better. Spring has arrived at last, I’m active and productive, so at the end of the month I’ll have more interesting things to write about. 🙂

Next week I’ll do the remake an old jewelry post I’ve promised you last month, so stay tuned.
